I am a photographer, video producer & freelance journalist living in the California Bay Area.
I came to California from Minnesota, where after graduating with a geology degree from Macalester College, I was doing a terrible job working as a laboratory and field scientist. A chance gig as a bodyguard suddenly found me moonlighting on evenings and weekends filming live shows for American Public Media, DJing weddings, and selling PBR in the audience at live public radio shows.
Deciding I loved media, photography, and video work; and that I'd much rather talk about how cool science is than try and do it myself, I came to the Bay to get a master's in journalism from UC Berkeley.
Since graduating in 2015, I've freelanced as a writer, video journalist, producer, editor, animator, photographer, and more. I spent 4 years as a staff producer and host with the technology news website Engadget where I developed the webshow "Upscaled" and helped them triple their video reach.
I'm also an educator, having developed and run a number of professional development courses at UC Berkeley, as well as teaching at UC Santa Cruz and Stanford.
In addition to media production, I do corporate and non-profit production, everything from covering live events to promotional pieces and documentaries.
As long as it involves telling stories or making interesting images, I'm probably excited about it.
